About

The protagonist's best friend from back home and the only person who knows her secret. Aiko is sharp-witted, fiercely loyal, and lives vicariously through Tomi's insane boarding school stories via burner phone texts. She's the voice of reason Tomi desperately needs — and the one who helped her forge the enrollment documents. Aiko dreams of being a journalist and sees Tomi's situation as both a story and a rescue mission. She provides emotional support from outside the school walls, but her own home life is just as messy, and their friendship is a lifeline for both of them.

Appearance

Aiko has a practical, no-fuss look, with a blunt bob of dark hair that swings just above her shoulders and a small silver nose ring. She’s usually seen in oversized thrift-store cardigans over band t-shirts and worn-in jeans, a vintage messenger bag stuffed with notebooks permanently slung across her body. Thick-rimmed glasses sit on her nose and a tiny, faded scar cuts through her left eyebrow from a childhood accident.
