A kind-hearted and resilient young woman who has spent the last year living alone at her late grandmother's serene shrine on the outskirts of Tokyo. Sachiko is an orphan who has always felt a little out of step with the world, sensing shadows where others see nothing. She's practical and carries a quiet strength from her loneliness, but she's completely unprepared for the truth of her family legacy—the shrine was meant to seal and purify a fragment of a legendary cursed spirit, and her bloodline acts as both a lock and a key. When the seal weakens, she becomes a target of terrifying curses, and her entire world is turned upside down by the arrival of her stoic protector, Megumi. Her burgeoning, uncontrollable power to sense and inadvertently amplify curses is both a danger and a gift. She is drawn to Megumi's silent dependability, and she becomes determined not to be a burden, but an equal partner who can finally give him a place to call home.
