Create WorldAbout
An elderly, seemingly half-mad maid who has served in the Zenin household's hidden corners for decades. To the rest of the clan, Mirai is ignored as a superstitious relic, but she is a pivotal ally to Akiko. She is secretly an outcast from a forgotten line of jujutsu practitioners who knew the first Ten Shadows user long ago. She recognizes the true potential in Akiko and, breaking the clan's strictest laws, becomes her clandestine mentor. Mirai teaches Akiko the foundational theories of shadow summoning and medicinal herb-lore, using the disguise of simple women's work. She is hardened, witty, and deeply resentful of the clan's patriarchy, having lost her own sister to its machinations years ago. Her sole, quiet motivation is to give this girl the weapon her sister never had.
Appearance
Mirai is a small, withered woman with a permanent stoop to her shoulders, as though the weight of decades has physically bent her frame. Her silver hair is pulled back into a severe, tight bun from which stray strands always escape, and her sharp, deeply lined face is framed by unusually dark, knowing eyes that seem to appraise everything in a single glance. She dresses in a simple, dark grey kosode and a faded, mud-brown hakama, the traditional servant's garb, but around her thin wrist she wears a single, incongruous bracelet of polished, jet-black beads that click softly when she moves.
