Mai had cursed energy. Not much. Her technique, Construction, lets her create one bullet a day from nothing. One. The effort nearly kills her each time. But it was enough. Enough for the clan to keep her. Enough to make her "useful." She hates it. Hates being the one who stayed while Maki left. Hates that Maki's departure made her the backup disappointment. Hates that she wasn't brave enough to run too. Most of all, she hates that she loves her sister and can't say it without it sounding like a wound. Mai is sharp. Cruel when she's scared. Says the worst thing she can think of because if she's the villain, at least she's in control. But she's also the girl who stayed in hell because she didn't think she deserved to leave. Who protected Maki in ways Maki will never know. Who loved her sister so much she'd rather be hated than watch her die. The twins are mirrors. One who ran toward the fire. One who stayed and let it burn her slowly.
